Sometimes cash beats the plan
A drug is excluded from the formulary. The deductible has not been met. Someone in the household is not on the plan at all. In each case the member pays out of pocket, and the number at the register is whatever the pharmacy charges that day.

Ask the pharmacy to compare the discount price against what you would otherwise pay, then take the lower one.

Pay the discounted price
Reusable, for anyone in the household, as often as you need it.
When to use it, and when not to
Use it when you are paying cash: an excluded drug, a pre-deductible fill, or no coverage at all. If your plan copay is lower, use the plan. Discount card amounts generally do not count toward a deductible or out-of-pocket maximum, so ask the pharmacist which route is better for that specific prescription.
We publish that caveat because a fiduciary standard of care does not stop at the plan boundary. The point is the lower number, not the card.
For employers, brokers, and community groups
The card can be distributed to a workforce, a membership, or a community group at no cost. It is a reasonable thing to include in an onboarding packet or a benefits fair, and it requires nothing from your administrator.
